Microsoft Office is a truly certified office set in the world, but unfortunately, it is not available to the "free" people on Linux. There are sure to be many ways to use it on Linux, either using a virtual PC or a job… .. which allows you to run it on Linux. Either way, the experience might not be the best. Fortunately, it has also allowed some very capable options for creation on Linux, and today we will take a look at the top 5 office suites available on Linux.
1.LibreOffice
In terms of the features that come with this office suite, the LibreOffice is the closest that MS Office can offer. Especially with the latest version 5.2.2, LibreOffice, there is a lot of gaps in trying to mess up MS Office. Comes with LibreOffice Writer (Word), Calc (Excel), Impress (PowerPoint), Base (). What you can't find is the collaboration between MS Office and Google Dock. But the LibreOffice office will most likely be capable of a powerful MS Office option on Linux.
2. Caligra Suite
Caligra Suite usually comes with some KDE based distros. Caligra comes with words, sheets and stage (for Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Caligra looks quite different from LibreOffice and MS Office. The feature parity with MS Office is not there and does not come close to what the Libre Office offers. But it comes with a plethora of applications, such as LibreOffice MS MSFoJECT and the Visio Option Plan and Flow. Check out the Caligra Suite and it might be for you.
3. Apache Office
If the LibreOffice does not meet your needs, then OpenOffice is worth a look. LibreOffice and OpenOffice are both built on the same footing, and although relatively similar, LibreOffice has a bit more appeal to the masses and is often up-to-date. So even if you have a slow pace of development, you get everything like Libre, and so why not make it to my list? It comes with six different applications that allow you to work with text documents, any spreadsheets, databases, presentations or even graphics.
Conclusion
Microsoft Office is not cheap, but it is not the easiest to replace. Finally, there are many discounts you can make and even if you're willing to pay, it's not officially available on Linux. WPS Office does a fantastic job of trying to be as Microsoft Office as possible while providing lower cost and some more streamlined features. LibreOffice and OpenOffice are completely free and offer more functionality than WPS Office.
